Paving is an important aspect for most homes. However, the lifespan of your paving can greatly be compromised by exposure to the elements. One of the more common concerns when it comes to paving is water damage due to either rain or snow. If you are looking for an option that will not be susceptible to water damage yet will still be aesthetically appealing, you should contemplate permeable asphalt paving. Permeable asphalt paving allows water to seep through it without causing structural damage to the paving. It has the appearance of conventional asphalt paving; however, the tinier pieces of aggregate are omitted when permeable asphalt paving is being mixed. This makes the asphalt porous, which allows water to pass through it. Here are some of the reasons to opt for permeable asphalt paving.

Permeable asphalt paving reduces the chances of erosion

Permeable asphalt paving inhibits water from freely washing over your property's surface as well as any adjoining properties. This decreases erosion on your property. Water is absorbed right through the paving, rather than washing over the surface of the pavement. This also helps to minimise the chances of pollutants, whether organic or chemical, from making their way into your property's storm water drains. This in turn reduces the risk of the pollutants causing damage, since they will not be redirected to natural waterways. As the water seeps directly into the sub base of the paving, you can rest assured it will not spread to any adjacent plants.

Permeable asphalt paving is low maintenance and safe

Another benefit of permeable asphalt paving is that it does not require rigorous maintenance measures to ensure that it stays in good condition. For instance, this type of paving neither requires resurfacing nor resealing. All that is required is regular cleaning of its surface so as to ensure its pores remain unclogged, thus enhancing its permeability. Additionally, permeable asphalt paving has a naturally highly-textured surface. This provides more traction when walking on it, hence making it safe, as it will decrease the chances of people slipping and falling on your driveway.

Permeable asphalt paving is cost effective

Granted, one of the concerns people have about permeable asphalt paving is the expenses associated with installation. However, although the initial cost may seem high, it pays off in the long term. For instance, with permeable asphalt paving, you do not need to pay for installation of other water management infrastructure such as catch basins or curbs. This is because since the water is readily absorbed, there will be very little left to be redirected away from your premises.
